This mechanic may not have even bothered me if it wasn’t for the fact that you can barely get through one magazine before your gun jams in the middle of a gunfight where you already can’t see fuck all, in part due to the frame rate and in part due to the “realism” where you can barely see enemies and hardly ever know what you’re even shooting at. It’s not even realistic that a weapon would jam that frequently.
For example, the mechanic where your gun will jam at any given moment. The game tries to go on this idea of realism, yet it’s so inconsistent and the parts that are “realistic” are either not even realistic or just irritating. Now I play old games very frequently, so I am used to worse performance, but this felt borderline unplayable with how bad the frame rate is. To be fair, I played this on the Xbox 360 and the game runs at what feels like 15 frames per second. It is astounding how much they added and improved in Far Cry 3 compared to this. I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it. A ridiculous ending to a nonsensical and confusing plot.ġ9h 50m PlayedAs a fan of Far Cry 3 and 4, I’m shocked by how much less I enjoyed this game. The pointless malaria gimmick should never have left the back of the napkin design phase. Console version has a highly inconvenient save system. The big open world is strangely barren of reasons to bother exploring it.
Too much drawn out driving around and backtracking cross country (further compounded by respawning security checkpoints and overly aggressive enemy patrols). +Excellent explosion physics and fire (literally fire) spreading mechanics. +Above average difficulty for a console FPS. +Well designed audio engine and convincing sound effects.
+Outstanding gunplay with exciting battles galore. But with its strong graphics (for 2008), immersive environs, and exhilarating gunplay, Far Cry 2 is decent wetwork. Far Cry 2 is perhaps formulaic to a fault, it has a very narrow focus and harbors some questionable game design. The majority of the gameplay concerns logistical navigation through large areas, then interacting with frenetic firefights to finish the mission.
